2026 Grape Festival: October 4
This year, our annual Grape Festival, will take place on Sunday, October 4, 2026.
Slovenian artist Kristina Žetko will deliver an artist talk about her current work and artistic practice related to light installations and experimental photography on October 10, 2026 , from noon to 1.30 pm at the Slovenian Hall, sponsored by Club Slovenia.
Several times during each calendar year, Club Slovenia offers online Slovenian language courses that are 7 weeks long and take place on Saturday mornings from 10 am to noon Pacific Time. The course content and proficiency level change, but every effort is being made to accommodate Slovene speakers with different levels of proficiency. 2026 Fall Session: Building Blocks of Slovene - Architecture and Language (Sept. 19 - Nov. 7: 8 sessions)
Course description: This Fall 2026 we will continue our study of Slovene language through cultural artifacts, this time turning to the architecture in Slovenia. We will have eight sessions from mid- September through early November, each week looking at examples of everyday structures, buildings, and other social spaces while learning how to describe our observations in simple Slovene language. Particular attention will be given to “vernacular” forms, such as the kozolec (hayrack) and čebeljnjak (bee houses), as well as to the work of Jože Plečnik in Ljubljana. Optional homework sheets with language practice exercises will be provided each week and reviewed in class. This course will be appropriate for beginners and continuing intermediate learners.
